Sunnyside After Sunset (Part 2)

Along the side of the playground next to Cheryl's apartment, two kids were trying to clear some stairs with their skateboards. Each time they tried they fell, not able to land correctly after the jump. Nursing their bruised legs and hips, they were frustrated and wanted to give up and go home.

I took some shots of their attempts and showed them the pictures through the LCD. Once they saw themselves frozen in midair, they became excited. They asked me to shoot them again a couple times after that and even though they fell, they quickly got up to see how the photo came out.

As I was leaving I could still hear them practicing; the skateboard riding up to the stairs, the silence during the jump, then the thud of the skateboard and them falling down. They stopped talking about wanting to give up and go home. Maybe in those few minutes of interaction they were able to see the potential of what diligence and consistency can do.

That afternoon it may have been for something as simple as landing after clearing five steps, but there's many more obstacles for them to face after that.
