Tonnie + Richard | May 2012| Woodbury, NY
Since I'm not married, I haven't experienced the emotion a man feels when he sees his wife-to-be walking down the aisle. But I imagine the whole scene can either feel like an eternity or a fraction of a second: the music starts to play, everyone standing up as the bride appears, her proud father escorting down the aisle, and her eyes fixed on her husband-to-be.
So when I'm photographing the bride coming down the aisle, I always make it a point to turn around to capture the groom's reaction. There's a variety of reactions you get. Some look speechless and in awe, others have a huge smile, but some are like Richard, holding back tears, overwhelmed with emotion. When I turned around to photograph Richard, I instantly felt the love he had for Tonnie and what it meant for them to be there at that moment.
Congratulations to you both. I hope you never forget what that moment felt like.
